About EKG System

An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a recording of the electrical activity of the heart over time produced by an electrocardiograph, This system usually in a noninvasive recording via skin electrodes. The EKG's name is made of different parts: electro, because it is related to electrical activity, cardio, Greek for heart, gram, a Greek root meaning "to write".

To understand the EKG test function, it helps to understand how the heart works. With each heartbeat, an electrical signal spreads from the top of the heart to the bottom. As it works, the EKG signal causes the heart to contract and pump blood. The process repeats with each new heartbeat on the patient's body. The heart's electrical signals set the rhythm of the heartbeat.
